The cryopedometer is a device that measures up to which depth the ground is frozen. Used in winter viability during periods of frost and thawing, it allows planning road maintenance and prevents the degradation of surface conditions.
Electronic cryopedometers are installed on the most sensitive points of your road network. They automatically collect temperature readings from the road surface and load-bearing soil at different depths. They communicate the data over the Internet. We build two types of electronic cryopedometer : wired (with a cable connecting the sensor to the station motherboard) or wireless.
The length of the cryopedometer, the number of measurement points, and their depth are determined by the needs of the client.
The sensor can administer up to 21 measurement points ans a maximum depth of 2 meters. It is possible to add a road surface measurement point if the client requests it.
Advantages
Mechanical Characteristics
Dimensions : length up to 200 cm / diameter 3,7 cm
Weight : approximately 3 kg (without cables) for a standard 90 cm model
Materials : stainless steel
Connection : cable (500 m maximum) or radio
Mechanical resistance : a very robust instrument that withstand the shears of the pavement's sub-layers road deformations (stainless steel tube 4 mm thick)
Main Characteristics
Sensitive temperature elements : up to 21 points
Temperature measurement range : -50°C to +120°C
Résolution : 0,1°C
Précision : ± 0,2°C
The number of cryopedometer measurement points, their depth, and distance between each point are determined by the client's needs.
The standard cryopedometer is composed of 21 measurement points spread 5cm apart from each other to a depth of 100 cm.
Our cryopedometers were subjected to weather qualification and mechanical tests in several national laboratories, such as CEREMA in France.
The vertical sealing of the cryopedometer allows precise tracking of the evolution of temperatures at different road layers.
Collected data is automatically transferred through its cable.
The automatic cryopedometer does not require any displacement to gather the temperatures.
It can be connected to different elements to directly communicate its data :
- GPRS MODEM
- RTC
- Optical Fibre
- Meteorological Station
- Console / Mobile box (for direct collection by patrolmen but requires moving around)
The intelligent cryopedometer can be associated wth a roadside box in which a battery powers a GPRS MODEM and its antenna.
Electrical consumption of the system is very low. The battery's autonomy can be calibrated to cover the needs of an entire winter season (6 month for example) without a solar panel.
A solar panel can also be added to guarantee continuous power.
Connected to the Internet, the cryopedometer transmits its data directly : collected temperature curves and up to 10 years of historical data are available for consultation on METEO OMNIUM's website.
Installing a cryopedometer inside the road surface is simple.
The cryopedometer is sealed vertically in the pavement after drilling the proper hole. Its cable runs in a trench cut in the pavement.
